There is no doubt that the iPhone Dev Team is definitely the most serious, hardworking and reliable jailbreak development teams of all. From the very first jailbreak these guys have worked hard and have released a Redsnow tool in just hours after the official iOS release from Apple. Redsnow 0.9.10b8b brings only some small bug fixes and minor improvements like it will make the .zip files more compatible with the default Windows Explorer.

The Mac version of Redsnow 0.9.10b8b doesn’t have any notable changes. Also there is no need for a new tutorial because the steps are basically the same, it’s just a newer Redsnow version. For those of you who don’t know, Pod2g joined forces with the Chronic Dev Team and iPhone Dev Team back in January in order to develop the untethered jailbreak tool for iOS 5.0.1 for the A5 based iDevices. It looks like now the history may repeat. Pod2g said that they have all the exploits required to develop the iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak and that they are working to bypass ASLR at bootup. For newbies, ASLR stands for address space layout randomization and it was first added in iOS 4.3 by Apple.

For the moment we don’t have an exact release date of the upcoming untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 and it’s also very hard to estimate one. However Pod2g’s announcement is very encouraging for all of us who are waiting for the iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak. Let’s just hope that Apple doesn’t block the attempts to jailbreak once again by releasing a new version of iOS.

Until iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak is released to the general public you can tether jailbreak your iDevice with the latest versions of the most popular jailbreak tools: Redsnow or Snowbreeze.

A while ago Apple released iOS 5.1 version which unfortunately at the moment can be jailbroken only tethered which means iBooty 2.3 is a must for all of you jailbreakers. You can jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with Snowbreeze 2.9.2 or Redsnow 5.1. We have some detailed tutorials that will be of great help.

Now let’s start the simple 4 step guide about how to boot your iDevice into the tethered state with iBooty 2.3 for iOS 5 / 5.1.

Step 1: Launch iBooty and select your iDevice from the list available in the right bottom corner.

Step 2: Hit the Start Option.

Step 3: iBooty 2.3 will require DFU mode so follow the on-screen instructions in order to achieve that.

Step 4: Sit back and relax while iBooty 2.3 for iOS 5 / 5.1 boots your iDevice into the tethered jailbreak state again. You will be prompted with a message when the process is complete.

Congratulations. You’ve successfully booted your iDevice into the tethered state with iBooty 2.3. Remember that you will have to redo all the steps above each time your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch runs out of battery life.

There are multiple options at the moment about how to install Siri on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad or iPod Touch, but probably the most popular one is the Spire tweak from Cydia. The catch with Spire is that it only provides the Siri GUI and it fully relies on a running proxy server. It also requires real data from a registered iPhone 4S to function which is a bit tricky. A well known team in the jailbreak community, i4Siri, announced that they might have the solution for this by making available to the general public the i4Siri servers and also you don’t need to have a registered iPhone 4S anymore.

Now let’s proceed with the simple tutorial about how to install Siri on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad and iPod Touch:

Step 1: Start Cydia and install the Spire app tweak.

Step 2: Once the installation is complete head on to General > Siri in your Device settings and make sure the toggle is set to ON.

Step 3: Select Spire from the root of the Settings menu and in the Spire settings menu and enter in the proxy URL field https://i4sirifree.mooo.com/

Step 4: Launch Safari Mobile and navigate to http://i4siri.com/installcertificate.html

Step 5: Install the certificate.

Step 6: Activate Siri and make a request.

Congratulations. You have successfully managed to install Siri on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad or iPod Touch.

Note: You need to have a jailbroken iDevice in order to install Siri on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch. You can jailbreak iOS 5.1 with the latest version of Redsnow, however it’s only a tethered version for the moment.

For the moment Snowbreeze 2.9.2 is only a tethered jailbreak option and it’s also limited to A4 processor based iDevices, meaning you won’t be able to jailbreak iPad 2, iPhone 4S or iPad 3. The tethered nature of the Snowbreeze 2.9.2 jailbreak tool means that every time your device is powered off and your turn it back on you will need to reboot into the jailbroken state. I know it’s a little annoying, but if you love all those tweaks from Cydia and you can’t stay apart of them then you will settle with this jailbreak option for the moment.

Requirements for the jailbreak procedure:

• Download iOS 5.1 IPSW
• Download Snowbreeze 2.9.2
• micro-USB cable

Follow the tutorial below in order to jailbreak iOS 5.1 on iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch using Snowbreeze 2.9.2:

Step 1: Launch Snowbreeze and click on the bottom right blue arrow to continue.

Step 2: Browse and select the iOS 5.1 IPSW file that you’ve previously downloaded.

Step 3: Select “Simple Mode” or if you plan to unlock your iPhone 4 then select “Expert Mode”.

Step 4: Select “Build IPSW” and hit the blue arrow.

Step 5: Wait until Snowbreeze finishes the process of building the custom IPSW.

Step 6: Follow the on-screen instructions and put your device into DFU mode.

Step 7: You now need to load the custom created IPSW on your iDevice. With your device still in DFU mode open iTunes and click on the device name from the left side bar. While holding down the Shift button hit the restore option. Browse and select the custom IPSW previously created by Snowbreeze. The device will now be loaded with a jailbroken firmware.

Congratulations. You have successfully jailbroken your iDevice by using Snowbreeze 2.9.2.

Well, there are some good news about this, and it looks like we will be able to jailbreak ios 5.1 untethered very soon.

We only have some screenshots at this time, but it looks like there are already 3 exploits available, each of them independent of each other  and discovered by different people. This is a first in the jailbreak history.

All the major league players (iPhone Dev Team, I0n1c and chpwn ) have discovered an exploit and now it’s just a matter of time until the new jailbreak will be released. They also discovered that these exploits will work on the new iPad, which means that we will be able to view Cydia on the brand new Retina display powered by the new A5x dual-core processor.

If you are an unlocker than you should stay away from stock iOS 5 and use Redsnow in baseband preservation mode and cook a custom IPSW file, already jailbroken.

Follow the tutorial below to jailbreak your iPhone 4,3GS iPad or iPod Touch 4G, 3G using Redsnow 5.1:

1. Download the latest version of iTunes and update your iDevice to iOS 5.1
2. Download Redsnow 5.1 for your iDevice and OS
3. Run Redsnow 5.1 , click on “Jailbreak” and the non “Install Cydia”
4. Enter your iDevice in DFU mode
5. Wait for Redsnow for 5.1 to finish jailbreaking
6. Boot your iDevice in a tethered state by clicking on “Extras” and then on “Just Boot”

Keep in mind that you’ll have to use Redsnow for 5.1 to boot in a tethered state each time you reboot your iDevice.

Well, work already started, but it looks like many of the recently discovered exploits won’t work anymore and the jailbreak devs need to find new ones.

So if you want to jailbreak ios 5.1 then I suggest that you don’t update your iPhone 4S, 4 3GS or iPad / iPod Touch just yet, especially if you are an unlocker because  there is no ETA for the release at this time.

Well, we have the veteran Redsnow, which has been present in the jailbreak scene for years. Redsnow is currently based on the Corona untether exploit and it is compatible with all iOS versions up to 5.0.1 running on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad and iPod Touch 4G,3G.

The second jailbreak tool, which was released just a couple months ago is called Absinthe, and it is meant for A5 devices, respectively iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
